Tui Na

Tui Na, literally translated from the phrase “pushing and grasping”, is the name for traditional Chinese medical massage. It incorporates the same meridian and collateral theories used in acupuncture, Gua Sha (scraping) and Ba Guan (cupping).

The history of Tui Na can be traced back several thousand years. Over the years, techniques of Tui Na have expanded from simple pressing and rubbing to over a few dozen different maneuvers.

The mechanism of this therapeutic modality varies depending on the maneuver or the combination of maneuvers that are applied. From a superficial level, Tui Na improves skin metabolism, promotes its defensive ability, enhances its elasticity and delays its aging process. The effect to the muscles includes improving the metabolism of lactic acid to alleviate pain.

Other effects of tui na include improving blood circulation, promoting digestion, regulating the nervous system and improving mood.
